On Friday December 20th, Executive Director Erica Lutes organized an official reception at the Flanders House in New York City to celebrate this year’s Fulbright Belgium and Fulbright Schuman grantees.
Fifty people attended the reception, which included current Fulbrighters studying in NYC such as Cedric Hocepied (Fulbright Belgium grantee at NYU) and Emmanuel De Groof (Fulbright Schuman grantee at NYU), but also a few from neighboring cities such as Boston and Washington DC. Several Fulbright alumni happily attended as well, such as Anne Rosenthal and Ray Iwazumi (former US Fulbright grantees to Belgium) and Gracia Muleka Kankonde, alumna of last year’s Fulbright Summer Institute and currently doing an internship in Brooklyn.
In addition, the Institute for International Education (IIE), one of our most important partners in coordinating the Fulbright program, was equally well-represented: Matthew Taylor (Program Officer for Foreign Fulbright Programs in Europe and Eurasia), Arthur Austin (Assistant Director for Foreign Fulbright Programs & World Area Manager for Europe and Eurasia), Derek Cook (Program Officer for the FLTA Program) and Grace Asphall (Administrative Support for Foreign Fulbright Programs).
Various friends of Fulbright also attended, such as Chris Ajemian from CATES Tutoring. Finally, US higher education representatives attended as well, such as James Minter (Director of International Admissions at Columbia University) and Timothy Stanne (Director of Graduate Admissions at NYU Law School).
This reception at the Flanders House was a wonderful networking opportunity to celebrate the Fulbright Belgium and Fulbright Schuman programs and our gratitude goes out to Kris Dierckx – Diplomatic Representative of the Government of Flanders to the US – and the Flanders House for hosting this event!
