Fulbright grantee activities in November and December 2016

Critical Meanings of Multilingualism in Local Contexts: A colloquium sponsored by the Advanced Research Collaborative” at The Graduate Center, City University of New York. Later next week, on Friday, while the Belgian colleagues are in town, they will be presenting some of the work accomplished by Ghent University for the Graduate School of Education of Fordham University at the Lincoln Centre campus in Manhattan. The presentation is titled “Globalisation-affected multilingualism and the field of educational policy and practice in Flanders/Belgium. Does it call for a multilingual response?” and will take place on the 12th floor lounge of the Lowenstein building where the GSE is located. Finally, Dr. Slembrouck and Dr. Mieke Vandenbroucke will be doing a joint presentation on “Globalisation-affected multilingualism and the categorisation practices of institutions in contexts of gatekeeping and service provision” at CSU Long Beach PH 1-107 on Monday 12 December. Their host is Prof. Alexandra Jaffe of the Linguistics Department at California State University and this event is sponsored through the Outreach Lecturing Fund of IIE. Dr. Slembrouck will present on “The case of English Used as a Lingua Franca while Dr. Vandenbroucke will discuss “The metapragmatics of transnational marriage applications.”]]>
