Inter Country Program

Travel Grants are available for Belgian higher education institutions wishing to invite an American Fulbright scholar/lecturer working in another European country. The Inter-Country Travel grants are usually awarded to support short visits, i.e., up to one week long.

Inter Country Travel Grants

Approximately 250 American lecturers and researchers representing a variety of academic fields participate in the Fulbright Scholar Program in Europe and throughout the world. Should your institution wish to host one of these scholars for a lecture and/or seminar, the Inter-Country Travel Grants Program may meet your needs. Belgian/Luxembourg higher education institutions may apply for a travel grant from the Fulbright Commission to support short visits (up to one week long) by American Fulbright scholars/lecturers working in another European country.

The Fulbright travel grant will cover the visiting lecturer's transportation from the host country using the most economical means of travel. The Belgian/Luxembourg institution is expected to cover the remaining expenses (e.i., meals, lodging, local transportation).

Application Procedure

The host institution identifies a suitable lecturer from the list of American Fulbright scholars in Europe for the academic year.

Belgian/Luxembourg institutions should request an Inter-Country Travel Grant application from the Commission for Educational Exchange Between the United States, Belgium and Luxembourg, Royal Library Albert I, Boulevard de L’Empereur, 4, B-1000 Brussels, Belgium. It can also be e-mailed to Ms. Margaret Nicholson, Executive director (at) director@fulbright.be Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

After the grant has been awarded, the Belgian host is responsible for making the visit arrangements directly with the visiting lecturer.
