Schools in English in Belgium and Luxembourg at the primary and secondary level The following schools offer instruction in English at the primary and secondary levels in Belgium and Luxembourg. For more information, please contact the schools directly.
AC MONTESSORI KIDS Offers bilingual English/French education for 1½ to 9-year-olds. There are four classes, one for toddlers up to age 3, two for children aged 3 to 6, and another for ages 6 to 9. Each class is directed by two to three teachers, one English-speaking, the other French-speaking. The small class size and low teacher/student ratio allows for individual learning, enabling each child to work at his/her own pace.
ANTWERP BRITISH SCHOOL British-based curriculum for children of all nationalities aged 2 ½ to 14. It offers courses in Dutch and French and includes a wide range of after school activities which complement the regular program. Member of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS).

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (AIS) For students aged 2.5 to 18 provides international education in English. For those wishing to continue their studies at the university-level worldwide, AIS provides the opportunity to complete the International Baccalaureate. ESL and LS Program are provided for children from 3-18. Children with learning needs fitting in the main-stream can benefit from our Learning Support program. The school is accredited by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. A five-day European Study tour each year for children in grades 6 to 12 is included in the tuition. Exracurricular activities are: Theatre Art, International Choir, Visual Art, MUN, NECIS Sport Events with other international schools in Europe.
BEPS (Brussels English Primary
School)-BRUSSELS An authorized IB World school which offers the International Baccaleaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP) for students aged 2 ½ to 11. Founded in 1972 and currently has over 240 pupils from 40 countries. Small class size following an international curriculum with French taught at all levels including pre-school. Bus service is available.
BEPS-WATERLOO INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Started in 1992 for students aged 2 ½ to 11 The school shares its campus with World International School (secondary school) and education is based on the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Active learning is the focus and French is taught as a second language.
THE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF
BRUSSELS Established in 2000, offers a British National Curriculum education to children aged 3 to 11. Set in a two-storey villa, it has six classrooms, an extensive school library, new computer suite with all computers connected to the Internet, music room, French room and all-weather outside playground. Classes are kept small. The school has about 90 children representing nearly 31 nationalities. Fifty percent have English as their mother tongue and there is an intensive program of English tuition for those who require it. Admission is possible at any time of the school year after an interview and reports from the previous schools.
BRITISH JUNIOR ACADEMY For students aged 2 to 14. British-style education offeringthe British National Curriculum to its 130 students of 20 different nationalities. Emphasis is placed on core subjects in which project work serves as an integral part of the program. GCSE exams are scheduled for summer 2002. Students wear school uniforms and classes are small. Specialist ESL assistance is provided. Focus is placed on encouraging students to become confident learners. To assist working parents, children can stay in the “garderie” until 5:30. Bus service available.
BRITISH PRIMARY SCHOOL (St. Paul’s)
For children aged 2 ½ to 9 . British-type program offering a Nursery School and classes from ages 4 to 9. Nursery School is offered five days a week and concentrates on constructive play, verbal stimulus, social development and forming a foundation for primary education. British National curriculum is used for primary education. 75% of pupils are British but the school welcomes students from all countries, nationalities and religions. Classes are small and emphasis is placed on the social and emotional well-being of the student in order to enhance overall learning.
BRITISH SCHOOL OF BRUSSELS (BSB)
An international school serving over 1,240 students aged 3 to 18. Over 60 different nationalities are represented. British-styled education offering the GCSE at 16+ and the GCSE A-Level at 18+. GNVQs courses in Business at advanced and intermediate levels are also offered. Offers well-resourced career and support departments, including ESL (English as a second Language). BSB is a community school with outstanding modern facilities and it offers adult education classes and holiday courses for children. There is a bus service and a host family scheme which operates for those who live too far away for daily travel.
BRUSSELS AMERICAN SCHOOL For students aged 4 to 18. American-type program with college preparatory courses at the secondary school level. The school is operated by the U.S. government for the children of U.S. government, state and NATO personnel.
BRUSSELS INTERNATIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL (BICS)
CHILDREN’S HOUSE MONTESSORI SCHOOL
For children between 2 ½ and 6 years old. Provides students with a bilingual (English¬-French) Montessori education in a multicultural, family atmosphere.
DA VINCI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL For students aged 2 ½ to 18 years. Class sizes are small with 15 pupils per class. Offers British-based curriculum. Secondary students are prepared for the SAT,IGCSE, A-Levels and TOEFL. Dutch is taught to students from grade 1, French is taught from grade 3. Dual British and Belgian secondary school qualifications are offered.
EUROPEAN MONTESSORI SCHOOL Established in 1981, Bilingual (English-French) Montessori education for children aged 18 months to 14 years. In the Preschool Montessori, materials are introduced in English with a French teacher also present to provide language support. Older children are taught in English and given specialized French lessons. Bus service available.

Mol/ Geel For students between the ages of 4 and 18 who are primarily, but not exclusively, dependents of EU employees. Offers Kindergarten and a program for the European Baccalaureate which allows admission to universities within the EU member countries. Education is provided in the mother tongue plus one other language at the primary level. In the secondary level, a second foreign language is added.
INTERNATIONAL MONTESSORI CHILDREN’S
CENTER STERREBEEK Mechelsesteenweg 79 Bilingual (French-English) education for children aged 1 ½ to 6 years old. The groups are as follows : Toddler Community (1,5 to 3) and Children’s House (3 to 6). The programs follow those of the International Montessori School Tervuren (see below).
INTERNATIONAL MONTESSORI SCHOOL
TERVUREN Bilingual (English-French) program for children aged 18 months to 12 years. The following groups exist: Toddler Community (18 months to 3 years); Children's House (3 to 6 years) and Primary (6 years to 12). Each group is directed by two teachers, one English-speaking and the other French-speaking.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF LUXEMBOURG
For students aged 4 to 19. American-type program and curriculum, with college-preparatory courses at the secondary level. Over 40 nationalities present with small class sizes. Modern facilities in a rural setting.
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL « LE VERSEAU » Is a private coeducational school which follows the Belgian curriculum. It offers English from nursery onwards. There are over 840 pupils with a maximum of 22 children per class. In the primary school, English mother-tongue pupils have five lessons a week in English, while those of French mother-tongue learn English as a second language. There is a special provision for children with no knowledge of French. In the secondary schools, four hours a week of English (three levels available) are taught, leading to the IGCSE. All pupils are prepared for the Belgian school-leaving certificate, which gives access to universities in Belgium and abroad. It is also possible to take the German exam “Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache”. The school emphasises creative and extra-curricular activities including music and sports
MONTESSORI HOUSE BELGIUM ASBL For students between the ages of 2 ½ and 8. Instruction is provided through the medium of English, although French language lessons are in French. There are two levels: Nursery (2 ½ – 4 years) and Pre-Primary (4 - 7 years). At both levels, the program employs Montessori methods.
SCANDINAVIAN SCHOOL OF BRUSSELS (ECOLE
REINE ASTRID) Scandinavian curriculum for children aged 3 to 19. Offers the International Baccalaureate program to secondary school students. Modern languages receive the focus in this program. Some courses are taught in English, some in French.
SHAPE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Limited to children of SHAPE members or other authorized personnel. A federated complex with a culturally and linguistically integrated Kindergarten and 10 national sections. In the Belgian, German and American sections courses are provided to students between the ages of 2 ½ and 11. In the Canadian section, students must be between 2 ½ and 14.
ST. JOHN’S INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Modern school with traditional Christian values. All faiths welcome and over 60 nationalities represented. English-speaking education for students aged 3 to 19. American and British-type programs with preparation for American Advanced Placement Programs, American High School diploma, U.S. universities, British O-Levels and the International Baccalaureate. Students study French daily starting at age 4; German, Spanish, Dutch and Spanish are optional languages from age 13 on. St. John’s has a varied athletic program and competes with international schools across Europe. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association and the European Council of International Schools. It is administered by the Sisters of the Faithful Companions of Jesus. Boarding with local families can be arranged for Middle School and High School Students.
THE WORLD INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (WIS)
Opened in September 2000 and shares a campus with BEPS-Waterloo, for pupils aged 11 to 16. It offers an international curriculum based on the Middle Years Program of the International Baccalaureate Organization. WIS has excellent facilities including a gymnastics hall, attractive classrooms and computer and science laboratories, WIS shares a campus with BEPS Waterloo, which is for children aged 2½ to 11. Bus service is available.
