Fulbright Scholarships – Grants for Graduate Study (Master’s and Ph.D.) – Deadline: April 30

The Commission will only consider applications in this competition from students, who are assured of affiliation with an accredited American university or institution of higher education for graduate-level study or pre-doctoral research.

Fulbright Awards (preliminary application)

Approximately 20 grants-in-aid and travel grants will be available for candidates who have completed their higher education and wish to study or conduct pre-doctoral research in an American university. In addition, the private awards below, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, are given upon recommendation of the Commission:

Ambassador Blinken Award
At least one partial scholarship will be offered by the Ambassador Blinken Award Fund to a graduate of a  Belgian university for graduate study in business or foreign policy in the U.S.

Ambassador Fox Award
At least one partial scholarship will be offered by the Ambassador Fox Award Fund for graduate study in any field of study in the U.S.
.

American Women's Club of Brussels Award
A grant-in-aid will be offered by the American Women's Club of Brussels to a Belgian woman nominated by the Commission.

Baker & McKenzie
The Belgian offices of Baker & McKenzie offer each year one $15,000 scholarship to a graduate of a Belgian university for post-graduate study in international (LL.M.) or comparative law (MCL) in the United States. Applications for this scholarship must be submitted to the Commission for Educational Exchange, but Baker & McKenzie encourages you to simultaneously contact the Recruitment Manager at their Brussels office.

University of Chicago Alumni Association Award
One or more partial scholarship to students in any field of study who will attend the University of Chicago.

Columbia Club of Belgium Award
At least one partial scholarship to a student in any field of study who will attend Columbia University.

Dorothy Deflandre Scholarship
At least one partial award for graduate study in any field at an American university or institution of higher education.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Award At least one partial scholarship will be offered by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP to a graduate of a Belgian university for graduate study in International Business Law in the United States. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Award

Fulbright Alumni Association Award
At least one partial award for graduate study in any field at an American university or institution of higher education.

Fulbright Environmental Studies Award
At least one partial award for graduate study in environmental studies at an accredited American university.

Harvard Club of Belgium
At least one scholarship will be offered by the Harvard Club of Belgium to a candidate in any field of study attending Harvard University.

Liedekerke, Wolters, Waelbroeck, Kirkpatrick Award At least one partial scholarship will be offered by Liedekerke, Wolters, Waelbroeck, Kirkpatrick to a graduate of a Belgian university for graduate study in law in the United States. Liedekerke, Wolters, Waelbroeck, Kirkpatrick Award

Linklaters De Bandt At least one partial scholarship for graduate study in the field of Law at an accredited American university.

McKinsey Scholarship for Graduate Study in Business
Maximum two partial awards for graduate study leading to a Master's degree in business administration or related fields at an accredited institution in the United States. The amount will vary according to the financial need of the candidate. Preference will be given to candidates who have proven leadership in professional or extraprofessional activities, or who have a record of community service activities.

S.W.I.F.T. Award
At least one full award for graduate study in the United States in the following fields : telecommunications, computer science, banking, economics, finance or marketing.  Preference will be given to candidates who have proven leadership in professional or extracurricular activities, or who have a record of community service activities.

C A U T I O N Candidates must be available in Belgium for personal interviews IN ENGLISH on dates specified by the Commission. Under no circumstances will the Commission make awards to candidates who are already in the United States.

ATTENTION!! Scholars who have previously held a J visa in the professor or research scholar category are not eligible for sponsorship again in those two categories for a period of 24 months following the program sponsorship end date.

Timeline Student

May 1 - Competition opens, applications available

15 April – Suggested deadline for preliminary application form (see website)
30 April – Final application deadline (including three
letters of recommendations and admission letter from a US university, and medical forms)

15 April- deadline for 3 letters of recommendations

Mid May- 15 minute interview in English at the Commission for Educational Exchange in Brussels (see interview)

Mid May – Applicants notified by physical mail

Mid June- Pre-departure meeting at US embassy and reception with US ambassador

September-March departures to the US
