The Fulbright-Schuman Program, administered by the Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States, Belgium and Luxembourg, is jointly financed by the U.S. State Department and the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission.

*Grants are limited to projects dealing with US-EU relations or EU affairs*

Grants for Post-Doctoral Research or University Lecturing:

Seventeen awards for U.S. professionals, including professionals in training (decision-makers, policy-makers, individuals in industry, the media, politics, academia and public administration) for an average duration of four months will be made available for study, research or lecturing on the organization of the European Union, particularly on the process of institution building within the EU, a social process of immense significance in law and political economy, as well as US-EU relations. U.S. citizens are expected to carry out their projects in at least two Member States of the EU.

All candidates must have at least two years of work-related experience beyond the Bachelor’s degree. Grants are for a minimum of three months, maximum one academic year, with preference being given to projects of four months duration. Grants are tenable in universities, independent research centers, and vocational training/professional institutions providing training at the post-secondary level.

One award for lecturing on transatlantic relations at the College of Europe in Brugge, Belgium. The College of Europe offers a Master’s program in European affairs to a select group of graduates from all European countries and North America. Fluency in French is desirable, but not required.

Grants for Professionals in International Education:

Grants are also available for professionals in international education administration (e.g., international exchange professionals; study abroad, or admissions officers) to work in similar offices in the 27 EU member states. Candidates are responsible for arranging their own placement and do not have to have a PhD. Grants are for a minimum period of 2 months and a maximum period of four months.

Value of Awards:

The Fulbright Commission will provide a monthly stipend of $3,000, an allowance of $3,000 for travel and relocation costs, and health and accident insurance. The maximum grant to any one candidate is set at $30,000.
