Grants for Citizens of the European Union

The U.S.-E.U. Fulbright Program, administered by the Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States, Belgium and Luxembourg with funding from the U.S. State Department and the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, provides approximately 8 grants to citizens of Member States of the European Union for study, research or lecturing on EU affairs, as well as approximately 12 grants to U.S. citizens for study or research on EU topics. These grants are tenable in any of the Member States of the European Union.

Grants for Post-Doctoral Research:

Approximately eight awards are offered annually to citizens of the European Union for study, research or lecturing about the European Union or U.S.-E.U. relations.

Approximately four one-semester awards for post-doctoral research on EU affairs or US-EU relations at an accredited institution in the U.S. Candidates are responsible for arranging their own affiliation. Grant includes a monthly stipend of at least $2,500-$2,900 plus round-trip air travel, health and accident insurance, and visa sponsorship. Grants are for a minimum period of three months, maximum one academic year. Interested applicants should submit the preliminary application as soon as possible. Final application forms duly completed must reach the Fulbright Commission by March 1.

Grants for University Lecturing:

Approximately three one-semester awards for post-doctoral lecturing on EU affairs at selected U.S. universities. Successful candidates will be placed in an appropriate institution. Detailed information on the U.S. universities requesting a EU Scholar-in-Residence is available in December of each year. Grant includes a monthly stipend of approximately $2,500-$2,900 plus round-trip air travel, health and accident insurance, and visa sponsorship. Interested applicants should submit the preliminary application as soon as possible. Final application forms duly completed must reach the Fulbright Commission by March 1.

Grants for Graduate Study or Pre-Doctoral Research:

Grants of $30,000 for post-university study at an accredited university in the United States are also possible. Candidates must intend to study EU affairs or US-EU relations. Grant includes a monthly stipend, partial or full tuition, round-trip air travel, health and accident insurance, and visa sponsorship. The grant is for one academic year. Interested applicants should submit the preliminary application as soon as possible. Final application forms duly completed must reach the Fulbright Commission by March 1.

• be citizens of the EU
• have a proven level of academic or professional excellence
• have outstanding records
• be proficient in English
