Grants for Study or Research in Belgium/Luxembourg

Grants for Post-doctoral Research or University Lecturing:

Two lecturing awards and one award for research in any field are offered annually to U.S. citizens. For the research grant, candidates should have French or Dutch skills commensurate with the project. Applicants must arrange their own affiliation with an institution in Belgium or Luxembourg. Grants are tenable for three to five months during the academic year.

The Commission also offers two awards annually for lecturing in American Studies/American literature. Awards are tenable at specific Belgian universities or at the Centre Universitaire in Luxembourg.

Grants for Graduate Study or Pre-Doctoral Research

Six full Fulbright grants are available to U.S. graduate students for any clearly-defined project requiring a student's presence in Belgium or Luxembourg, including U.S.-Belgian or U.S.-Luxembourger relations. For grants to Belgium, proficiency in spoken and written French or Dutch is required before the grant begins; for Luxembourg, proficiency in French or German is required. U.S. students currently residing in Belgium or Luxembourg are not eligible to apply.

Two full grants are available to U.S. graduate students to serve as English language teaching assistants. Candidates should be well-rounded, articulate, and have the initiative required to teach English conversation in Belgian or Luxembourger universities. Preference is given to candidates who plan careers in teaching French, Dutch or German.
