Fulbright Scholarships – Grants for Professional Journalists
Deadline: NOON ON OCTOBER 28, 2012
This scholarship is designed to aid journalists (specifically those engaged in a career in print or broadcast journalism) to study for a period of three to nine months at an accredited U.S. university.
The grant of $15,000 – $30,000 is intended to cover part of tuition and fees, books and academic supplies and room and board. Visa sponsorship and health/accident insurance are provided by the Commission for Educational Exchange.
Candidates must be citizens of Belgium or Luxembourg, have a degree equivalent to a licence/licentiaat, have ambassadorial qualities, a proven level of academic and/or professional excellence as well as outstanding results. In addition, all candidates must have at least two years of professional experience in journalism, be proficient in English, and have a specific program and/or project based on opportunities offered at American universities.

All eligible candidates who have completed and submitted the final application by the October 31, 2012 deadline must be present for a personal interview in English which will be scheduled by the Commission.

APPLICATION TIMELINE FOR JOURNALISTS:
November 1, 2010: Competition opens, applications available
October 14, 2011: Suggested deadline for online preliminary application form consisting of biographical data (roughly 2 pages)
October 28, 2011: Final application deadline at NOON (12pm) to submit a hard copy of the FINAL application (consisting of a 15 page application form with CV, (optional) writing sample, 5 photos, etc).
November 15, 2011: Deadline for 3 letters of recommendations
Mid-November, 2011: 10 minute interview in English at the Commission for Educational Exchange in Brussels
Mid-November 2011: Applicants notified by physical mail
January-April 2012: Selected candidate arranges affiliation in the U.S.
May 2012: Health forms submitted
Mid-June 2012: Pre-departure meeting at the U.S. Embassy and reception with the U.S. ambassador
July-March 2012: Departures to the U.S..
