Fulbright Scholarships – Grants for Secondary School Teachers and Language Teaching Assistants

 

Candidates should submit a Preliminary Application to the Commission for Educational Exchange at their earliest convenience so that their eligibility to compete for an award may be determined. (Academic records, suitability of project, and knowledge of English are factors in determining eligibility.)

 

Opportunities for Belgian Educators

 

I. FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING ASSISTANTS PROGRAM
Belgian or Luxembourg teachers of French, Dutch or German at the upper secondary level, without three years of professional experience and under the age of 29, may apply to be foreign language teaching assistants in French, German or Dutch in American colleges and universities for the academic year 2011-12. Successful candidates are placed in U.S. universities, where they receive housing, meals, a monthly stipend and the possibility of following a few courses at the university level in addition to their teaching duties.

DEADLINE DATE FOR FINAL APPLICATION: October 31 at noon

 

APPLICATION TIMELINE FOR FLTA TEACHING ASSISTANTS AWARD:

 

For those deadlines that fall on a weekend, please use the previous Friday at NOON (12pm) as the deadline to deliver all applications and supporting materials to the Fulbright office in Brussels.

July 1, 2013: Competition opens, applications available

October 1, 2013:  Deadline to submit preliminary application form consisting of biographical data (roughly 2 pages)

October 31, 2013: Final application deadline at NOON (12pm) to submit the FINAL application online (consisting of a 15 page application form with CV, recommendation letters, transcripts, TOEFL scores, etc)
Mid-November, 2013: 10 minute interview in English at the Commission for Educational Exchange in Brussels
Mid-November, 2013:  Applicants notified by e-mail

March 2014: Notification by the headquarters in New York that your application is accepted
May 2014: Notification of your placement in an American college or university
Mid-June 2014: Pre-departure meeting at the U.S. Embassy and reception with the U.S. Ambassador
August 2014-March 2015: Departures to the U.S.

 

 

II. SUMMER 2012 SEMINARS

Six-week summer programs of study and travel in the U.S.A. designed to acquaint secondary school teachers of English with some aspects of the history and culture of the United States. The program may vary from year to year, but generally comprises four weeks of intensive study on an American university campus, followed by a two-week period of organized travel to various regions of the United States. All expenses for this program are covered by the Commission, but spouses and/or families may not accompany participants.

Please note that while programs begin in mid-June, past participants have all received permission from their schools to attend.

 

BASIC ELIGIBILITY: Open to teachers of English language and literature at the upper secondary level having Belgian citizenship, and three years’ teaching experience at time of application.

Mid-June 2014: 6 week seminar in the United States begins
