In 1948, the Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States of America, Belgium and Luxembourg was established with the goal of increasing mutual understanding through academic exchange between citizens of Belgium and Luxembourg and citizens of the United States. Over the past seven decades, the Fulbright Commission in Brussels has facilitated the academic exchange of thousands of students, researchers, teaching assistants, and professors between the United States of America and Belgium.

Today, seventy years after the creation of the program, the Fulbright Commission provides grants for graduate study, pre- and post-doctoral research, foreign language teaching, and university lecturing in the United States. American citizens seeking Fulbright grants for study or research in Belgium or Luxembourg can also obtain information from the Fulbright Commission in Brussels.
