There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it: Luxembourg is a tiny country.* Clocking it at 999 square miles (2,586 square kilometers, to use the local parlance), it is slightly smaller than the state of Rhode Island. When it comes to size, Luxembourg ranks 179 out of 194; in other words, it is the fifteenth smallest independent country in the world. As a result, you would be hard-pressed to find a guide book dedicated solely to the Grand Duchy on the shelves of any American bookstore. When articles and travel blogs do focus specifically on Luxembourg, it’s not uncommon to see headlines promising to show you “All of Luxembourg in a Weekend.”
