The Commission for Educational Exchange Between the United States of America, Belgium, & Luxembourg administers grants for educational and cultural exchange to Belgian and American citizens looking to study, research, or lecture in the partner country. While most of the funding comes from the Belgian and United States governments for awards whose eligibility is defined autonomously by the Commission, some awards are sponsored by individuals, companies, associations, and accredited Belgian and American universities solely for Fulbright applicants coming to or from their institutions. Some of these awards may have more specific eligibility requirements; if they do, these requirements will be listed in the award descriptions below. If an applicant meets the eligibility requirements for a specific award, (s)he will automatically be considered for this award during the application and selection process.

All of the following awards are administered as Fulbright awards by the Commission for Educational Exchange, and all award recipients will be considered Fulbright grantees and must travel to the United States on a government-sponsored J-1 visa.

Law awards

Some awards are offered specifically to Belgian law students and young Belgian lawyers looking to pursue an LL.M degree in the United States. To be considered for university-specific scholarships, applicants must apply to the school through the normal admissions process and indicate this on their Fulbright application forms. The Commission will then interview and rank their candidatures along with all other applicants. If a candidate is among the top finalists, we will offer him/her Commission-funding plus the award package from the school; if (s)he does not, we may only offer the award package with the school (which includes a travel stipend and other traditional Fulbright benefits). School-specific scholarships are contingent upon successful admission and approval by the US law school offering the award.
