Our Commission

The Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States of America, Belgium, and Luxembourg is located in KBR (the Royal Library of Belgium) in downtown Brussels and administers the Fulbright Program for Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, and runs an EducationUSA Advising Center.

The Commission administers several Fulbright Scholarship Programs for citizens of Belgium and Luxembourg. Grants are available for graduate study, (pre-)doctoral research and post-doctoral research or university lecturing in the United States. Fulbright awards fund Belgian and Luxembourgish citizens to study, research, or lecture at an accredited U.S. institution for a period between three months and one academic year. Grants are available for study and research in all fields of study, with additional Partner Awards available for study and research in specific fields (e.g., law, STEM). U.S. citizens seeking Fulbright grants for study or research in Belgium or Luxembourg can also obtain information from the Commission.

The Commission in Brussels also administers the Fulbright Schuman Program. The program, co-financed by the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG.EAC) of the European Commission and the U.S. State Department, funds graduate and postgraduate study, research, and lecture proposals in the field of U.S.-EU relations, EU policy, or EU institutions for interested American and EU citizens. Through this program, American professors and advanced graduate students may travel to EU Member States for study or research on topics relating to EU affairs or US-EU relations. Academics, professionals and policy makers from European Union member states may pursue similar courses of study, research, or lecturing at American colleges and universities. This is the only Fulbright program at the Brussels Commission that is open to citizens of all EU member states.
